‘Writ on Water’
Literatures of Flooding in Lincolnshire 1300-1800
Lowland regions like Lincolnshire and Humberside share a long history of flooding and managing flood risk. There has been little research in to how living with flood risk has shaped literature – plays, poems and prose writings. Our speaker will look at the literature written around the severe North Sea storms and ‘The Little Ice Age’ 1300-1800, and why we should re-read English literature of this period through an environmental lens.
