Deepings Heritage, Market Deeping – A Lost Fenland Village

A Lost Fenland Village and the Earl of Exeter’s Duck Decoys

At our final meeting of the season on Friday, 8th May, Jonathan Smith will describe how his search for the original site of a settlement in Deeping Fen, led to the discovery of duck decoys. Before the area was drained for farming, it was known as the aviary of England for wild fowl, said to be remarkable in their quantity, variety and deliciousness.

Jonathan Smith’s talk starts at 7.30 pm in the main hall of the Community Centre, Market Deeping, when he will reveal the whereabouts of the elusive village and his research at Burghley House archives into the family’s decoys . Everyone is welcome. Admission £3.
