WisSoc – Kings Lynn and the German Hanse

Wisbech Society is pleased to announce that on MONDAY 5th December 2022 at 7.30pm, it is holding the third in this winter’s series of talks at the Old Chapel at Wisbech General Cemetery.

KING’S LYNN AND THE GERMAN HANSE
by Dr Paul Richards

No stranger to Wisbech Society, Paul visits again with a new talk on his special interest. While previous histories of England and the German Hanse have carried sections on the east coast ports, the place of King’s Lynn in the Anglo-Hanseatic medieval world warrants an independent study. Together with Boston, it became a senior trading partner of the German Hanseatic towns which dominated the overseas commerce of late medieval northern Europe. This talk investigates the character of the German Hanse and why Hanseatic ships used King’s Lynn as a prime destination.

The doors open at 7pm.
Society Members and under eighteens are free and guests are very welcome at £3.00 each.
