The Wisbech Society – A Victorian Shipping Entrepreneur

You are welcome to attend this evening talk to be held at Wisbech General Cemetery Chapel, North End, Wisbech PE13 1PE

Bill Lindsay will tell the rags to riches story of William Schaw Lindsay, a ship owner and business associate of Wisbech shipping merchant Richard Young. Bill’s illustrated talk will focus on his great-great-grandfather’s life involving the hazards of life at sea in the 1830s, the Crimean War, the American Civil War, and his forefather’s rise to an MP and a wealthy shipowner. Lindsay’s journals are held in the National Maritime Museum and feature anecdotes of famous celebrities of the day, including Brunel, Disraeli, Nightingale, Napoleon III, and Lincoln.

Doors open 7pm. Non-members are welcome for a donation of £3 per person. Members and children free.
