Historic Bostons – Boston: The Prequel

Have you ever wondered why we have an ‘s’ in our name, the Partnership of Historic Bostons? It’s because there are two – Boston, Massachusetts, and, less known, the original Boston, located on the east coast of England in the county of Lincolnshire.

Sign up here for a revelatory presentation, on Saturday, 20 July, from 7pm to 8.30, with Boston: The Prequel.

Few Americans have heard of it, but Boston, Lincolnshire, plays a unique role in US history as the source of many of the Puritans who founded the Massachusetts Bay Colony and consequently, and unsurprisingly, named their new town Boston.

This talk, by Neil Wright, Boston’s leading historian and an author of many books of Lincolnshire history, describes the town from which the Puritans came, how that town became a Puritan stronghold, and what compelled them to leave their English home. He’ll take you through the medieval byways and ancient buildings of the old town, its setting amidst extensive fens, and its role as a Puritan heartland.

From the Middle Ages to 2024, welcome to the first Boston!
