Deepings Heritage – What the Romans did for Deeping: Car Dyke

Our first meeting of 2025 is on Friday, 10th January when David Blessett will discuss the Roman waterway which ran along the fen edge between Peterborough and Lincoln. Its creation is considered an equal feat of engineering to the building of Hadrian’s Wall, but it is much less well known and understood. Once around twelve metres wide, much of the channel is now filled in, or only survives as a narrow ditch.

David Blessett has an entertaining style of presentation, and will reveal what is known about the creation and uses of the once great waterway through our region. His talk begins at 7.30 pm in the main hall of the Community Centre in Market Deeping. Everyone is welcome. Admission £3 for non-members.
