Deepings Heritage Talk – Tudor Metal Production
The Company of Mines Royal was established by Queen Elizabeth I in 1568, and at our meeting on Friday, 8th April, Steve Critchley will describe how it revolutionised the prospecting and development of mineral deposits in some remote areas of England. Steve will focus on the Lake District where evidence is still visible in the landscape of those early miners and smelters. Improbably, the environs of Market Deeping played a small part in the venture. It promises to be a fascinating talk, which will include a display of geological specimens to illustrate what these prospectors were looking for.
7.30pm at the Community Centre, entrance £2.00
