“Decoding the dead: new work on Roman cremations at Colchester”

Professor Hella Eckardt, Head of Archaeology, Reading University, and Glynn Davis, Senior Collections & Learning Curator, Colchester.

Hella’s research focuses on objects and what they can reveal about themes such as literacy. Hella has also worked with archaeological scientists to better understand mobility and migration in the Roman world. Working in collaboration with Reading University and others, Glynn Davis curated the splendid exhibition “Decoding the Roman Dead” at Colchester Castle Museum in 2021, which interpreted afresh a number of Roman cremations held by the Museum Service.

Each talk will be held via Zoom at 7.30 pm on the last Tuesday of the month and will last approximately 45 mins followed by 10 minutes of Qs & As. Put the dates in your diary now.
